The success rate of tubal reversal surgery depends primarily on two factors: 1) the age of the woman at the time of reversal surgery and 2) the type of tubal ligation performed.
The younger the patient then the longer…or the more chances…she has to see success from tubal reversal. We define ‘young’ as being less than 42 years of age…we define ‘older’ as being over the age of 42.

The type of tubal ligation is also important…the more damaging the tubal ligation the lower the success of tubal reversal. Women who have tubal clips and rings have the highest success rate (80%) and women who have cutting and tying or burning of large amounts of tube have the lowest success rates (50% to 60%).

As with most things in life, the younger you are when you do something the better off you are…the same is true of tubal reversal surgery.
Most women think that they are too old after age 35. This is not true.
It is harder to become pregnant with increasing age. The ability to become pregnant does decrease with age.
Pregnancy chances being to decrease after age 40 but then decrease more rapidly after age 42.
Dont prolong your decision! Just think of each year as having 12 chances of getting pregnant. Each year you wait to become pregnant you lose 12 chances….and each year after age 42 the 12 chances become less.

The tubal ligations that do the least amount of damage to the tubes are tubal clips and tubal rings.
Although tubal burning and tying and cutting seem like they are too destructive, if the doctor only burns a small amount or ties, cuts, and removes a small amount then your chances of pregnancy can be very good.
