Risks of Tubal Reversal
Surgical Site Infection
Tubal reversal performed at A Personal Choice is a safe surgical procedure. The immediate risks of surgery are mostly limited to infection and the delayed risk is ectopic pregnancy.
Our surgical site infection rate is low and well below 2%. We have an extensive infection prevention protocol to minimize the risk of surgical site infection during and after our reversal surgeries.
During the entire year of 2014, we only had one surgical site infection which was easily treated with oral antibiotics.
Ectopic Pregnancy
Ectopic pregnancy, more commonly known as tubal pregnancy, is a risk of tubal reversal surgery. The chance of tubal pregnancy after tube reversing surgery is approximately 10%.
If detected early, tubal pregnancy can be easily treated with methotrexate medication. We advise our patients to follow up with their doctors soon after reversal to discuss the risk of tubal pregnancy. We also provide our patients and their doctors with detailed recommendations on how to monitor early pregnancy and safely treat ectopic pregnancy with medication after tubal reversal surgery.

Pregnancy Success
The number one ‘risk’ of tubal reversal surgery is success! Tubal reversal can be successful in most cases and approximately 2 out of every 3 patients will become pregnant after tubal reversal surgery and most patients can realize their dream of having more children with tubal ligation reversal surgery.
The above photo of Jackson provides testimony tubal reversal can be successful and even burned tubes can be reversed!
