Can you get pregnant with one tube?
Getting pregnant with one tube is very possible. Why would a woman only have one fallopian tube?
It can be very common for a woman to have a fallopian tube removed during a prior surgery. Often fallopian tubes will be removed with a large cyst or when an ovary is removed. Fallopian tubes are also removed to treat advanced ectopic pregnancies. Women can have ectopic pregnancies before a tubal ligation, as a direct result of a tubal ligation procedure, or from a tubal reversal procedure.
If a woman has one tube reversed at the time of tubal reversal surgery then pregnancy can happen but it may take longer. Typically ovulation will change sides every month. When you ovulate from the side where the tube is repaired then pregnancy is more likely. If you ovulate from the side where there is no tube then the chance of pregnancy is less that month. Ovulation typically will switch sides but it is possible to ovulate from the same side for several months in a row.
Most patients will become pregnant within 12 months of reversal surgery. If you have only one fallopian tube then it could take up to 24 months to become pregnant.
