Is It Possible To Have A Baby At Age 43 With Tubal Reversal Surgery?
Pregnancy is possible at any age if you are having regular periods.
It is harder to become naturally pregnant with increasing age but not impossible if you are having regular periods.
- If you have a period then you have released an egg (ovulated).
- If you have released an egg then you can potentially become pregnant.
- If you are not having regular periods then you are not releasing eggs regularly.
As age increases, the chance for having a miscarriage does increase. As eggs age, their ability to divide and grow becomes impaired and the chance of miscarriage will increase.
Tubal reversal offers a chance every month
Tubal reversal surgery offers women a chance to become pregnant every month. Over many months these chances do add up and this is why tubal reversal surgery can be more successful than in-vitro fertilization (IVF).
During a single IVF treatment you have one chance to become pregnant. Your chance of pregnancy depends on your age and how many eggs you can produce with hormonal stimulation, how many eggs will fertilize, and how many eggs will grow.
After age 42, most IVF doctors will recommend you use donor eggs for each IVF cycle because women over age 42 may not respond to IVF treatment as well as younger women.
Many women would prefer not to undergo IVF treatment or use donor eggs. Tubal reversal can provide many women with a good alternative to IVF. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine has repeatedly advised:
“Tubal reversal surgery has a significantly higher cumulative pregnancy rate than IVF, and is more cost efficient, even in women 40 years of age or older.”
Pregnancy is possible after tubal reversal surgery. As age increases the ability to become pregnant does decrease but pregnancy can happen at almost any age if periods are occurring regularly.
