Well the tubal ligation reversal roller coaster ride has just begun and you are taking your seat at the top of the ride. You are anxious and smiling, anticipating every scary moment! After tubal reversal surgery, your emotions will resemble that same feeling. There will be very tense and scary moments and ones of extreme exhilaration. While none will be able to predict how fast the ride will take you, there are things that you can do for yourself to make the ride a little less scary.
After Tubal Reversal Surgery: Take Care of Yourself!
After reversal surgery the first and foremost important point: take care of yourself. No, I’m not saying you have to join Weight Watchers or train for a 5K run. Take care of YOU! There is no mental preparation, so take time everyday to sit and relax, clear your mind, find peace and think about all the blessings in your life. Take deep breaths and let go of your stress. Sometimes it’s easier to stay busy, because we don’t have time to sit and worry…Escaping only keeps those feelings trapped inside and building up for the “explosion”.
After Reversing Tubes: Relax and Meditate
Relax…retrain your body to relax. Meditation and visualization are excellent ways to decompress. And the best part: they are FREE!! The Internet and your public library are the best places to help with meditation and visualization. At one time or another, most of us went to Lamaze class. Refresh your skills required for labor, deep breathing, concentration on good thoughts and memories. Before you attempt to ride the roller coaster, you generally try to relax and stay calm so you don’t lose consciousness…it’s the same feeling.
Reversal of Tubes and Roller Coaster Rides
When that roller coaster starts to leave the station, you will have the same feelings you had as you entered the surgical suite. All the anticipation butterflies and tension! As you recover and awake from surgery, you are woozy but exhilarated…. Now you’ve made it down the first slope. As you speed toward the next hill, the anticipation and thrill seeking returns! Much the same as when you return to your home, so full of hope for the future. But like so many roller coasters the hill is short and we fall back into a valley. It is like the disappointment that comes when the pregnancy doesn’t occur immediately. (My low point was frantically running into the drugstore daily and buying a pregnancy test…27 days in a row! I was too ashamed to tell my husband.) What I didn’t realize was I couldn’t make this happen any faster by taking pregnancy tests daily! It can be frustrating, agonizing, and you feel like you want to give up! But you can’t and you shouldn’t, this roller coaster may surprise you after all! And let’s face it, the ride is much better when you share it with others.
Tubal Reversal Surgery: The Ups and Downs
Tubal ligation reversal surgery is the same as a roller coaster. The ride has already begun; you can’t stop in the middle and get off. You must endure to the end of the ride. When you enter into this change, you have to prepare yourself for the long haul. Your emotions will happen much the same as a roller coaster ride. You will have highs and lows. But, if you anticipate them and find a way to get past them to the next high, you will have a much more enjoyable experience.
How to Increase Chances of Pregnancy?
For everyone this will be different. I found solace in long walks, gardening and planting flowers. I made a peaceful spot for myself in our sun room, and would retreat there to unwind and relax.
Realize that these feelings are very normal. Every cramp, twinge, or pain will send you in a panic, but if you learn to relax, you will be able to determine whether or not you need to seek medical attention. Women, in general, are very intuitive and know what is and what is not normal. The only difference being that because we have expended all this energy and focus on becoming pregnant, we lose sight of those intuitive feelings.
Sit back and enjoy this ride. The surprise may be just over the next hill…
