The first month after my tubal reversal surgery was a huge period of adjustment for us.
We were trying to move to a house closer to work, which was an ordeal considering I had just had surgery a month before the move. I also hadn’t seen my menstrual flow, which was giving me the hope I had conceived right after I had my tubes reversed. I tested six times in two weeks. All my pregnancy test had negative results. It was 53 days from the date of my surgery before Aunt Flow (menstrual period) showed back up.
After Fallopian Tube Surgery: TTC, OPK, BBT
I refused at first to get into the rigors of what I called “Die hard trying to conceive (TTC)“. I refused to use ovulation predictor test kits (OPKs), take my basal body temperature (BBT) to chart ovulation, or anything other help with conceiving. I believed my tubal reversal pregnancy would happen on its own and quickly. Since I had always been extremely fertile before my tubes were tied, I was convinced I would be pregnant within 6 months of having my fallopian tubes untied.
It wasn’t long before I realized most of us who have their tubes untied believe the same thing- that pregnancy after tubal reversal happens quickly.
Unfortunately, this does not seem to be the case for most tubal reversal patients.
Planning Pregnancy After Untying Tubes
After the first month of having my tubes untied and with no pregnancy to report, I bought fifty OPK tests from an online company! The second month I started charting. It was time to get serious with my untied tubes! It was time to die hard TTC!
Pregnancy After Tubes Untied: Stress And Conception
About the third month after surgery, I gave up my job as a receptionist. The work environment had gone downhill, and I just felt it wasn’t the place for me any longer. The stress of job-hunting, worrying over life in general, and how we were going to make it on one income started wearing on us. I started to get more and more dejected over the lack of a positive pregnancy test. I started trying different herbal supplements to further my objective, but to no avail.
I finally decided that it was time to take a mental break from “die hard TTC” and to focus on my family again…
