Wendy and Dave traveled from Trinidad, West Indies to have tubal reversal at A Personal Choice.
I asked them if they would like to share their story on our Tubal Reversal blog and they were happy to do so.
They are currently on their honeymoon in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and their wedding gift to each other was a tubal reversal surgery in North Carolina!
Desiring A Child Together
Wendy is 40 years of age. She had her tubes tied after her third child and before she met Dave. She and Dave have known each other for the last three years and they recently became married.
They are both teachers in the West Indies. During our pre-operative consultation, they taught me something about education in the West Indes. Teachers in West Indies don’t teach grades….they teach forms.
Wendy and Dave teach the later forms which are equivalent to high school. Wendy teaches biology and Dave teaches math. I asked them how they met and, as is always the case when teachers meet, they found each other in the staff break room!
One thing often leads to another and before they knew it they were engaged to become married. She knew Dave wanted a child of his own and they made the decision after they became married they would also have tubal ligation reversal surgery.
Tubal Ligation Reversal In Trinidad
Wendy told me they considered tubal reversal in the West Indies and they had found a place where they considered having reversal surgery in Trinidad.
They found a doctor who would do it for $30,000 TTD (Trinidad Tabago Dollar) but they did not feel comfortable having a sophisticated and delicate surgery in the West Indies.
Wendy then Googled “Tubal Reversal” and decided she was coming to the United States to have her reversal surgery. She was going to Chapel Hill North Carolina!
The decided their honeymoon was going to be in North Carolina and it was to be centered around Wendy’s tubal reversal surgery.
I had fun joking with them that couples in our areaoften will do the reverse: get married and honeymoon in the West Indies!
Honeymoon In North Carolina
They have had fun during their honeymoon and have entertained themselves with going to IMAX movies and shopping at the mall. They have especially enjoyed shopping at WalMart!
They told me the Residence Hotel was amazing and they love the weather in North Carolina; however, Dave has been having trouble adjusting to the air conditioning because they primarily use fans in their household and are not accustomed to air-conditioned air.
Reversal Surgery: How Did It Go?
Wendy’s surgery was a great success. Her surgery lasted approximately 60 minutes, the estimated blood loss was less than 15 mls, and both of her tubes were successfully repaired.
She did well and was discharged back to the Residence Inn hotel after her procedure. She was seen in the office the day after her surgery and she was feeling quite good.
As a result of her surgery she will have the ability to become pregnant naturally and every month she will have a chance.
Tubal Reversal Trinidad: No Distance Is Too Far!
In preparation for the publication blog article, I emailed Wendy to check in on her. She wanted to share with readers,
“Thanks for writing an article on us, maybe you could include that we were very happy with the treatment we got at your clinic, everyone was so kind and friendly. Also I have 3 kids, Carissa 17, Melissa 11 and Joshua 9, but Dave has none of his own so we are really hoping for the best. He has accepted my children as his own though which is very kindhearted of him. Thank you once again for everything, you made us feel very comfortable as well.”
We wish her well and hope to hear positive news from her and Dave very soon.
