In the early spring of 2010, Lauren came to A Personal Choice for tubal reversal surgery.
Lauren traveled to our tubal reversal specialty center from San Acacia, New Mexico (NM) with her husband Bryan. Lauren was very enthusiastic to begin her tubal reversal journey and we asked Lauren if she would want to blog about her tubal reversal experience.
She readily agreed and below is the start of her tubal reversal journey.
Our Love Story: ‘No Doubt’
My name is Lauren. In April, 1997, I met the love of my life. Actually, we met three times in one week before we actually did something about it! I had just finished my Associates degree at New Mexico Tech (in a very small town named Socorro) New Mexico, broke up with my first real boyfriend of four years, and was ready to head back home to New York. I was staying in N.M. for two weeks until graduation.
My friends wanted to cheer me up, so they took me to a No Doubt concert in Albuquerque. While waiting in our seats I saw a gorgeous man with someone who looked like they were his brother walk by us. Of course, right after a break-up, the last thing you think of is dating again. I let it go.
Chance Meeting at The Capitol Bar
A few days later another group of friends took me to a local bar in town, The Capitol Bar, or “The Cap.” My good friend Joleen wanted to meet me there to see me before I left. She usually doesn’t like going to bars, because of her asthma. However, she decided to go this night. Just as quickly as I saw her, my eyes focused towards the bar, where an extremely tall and handsome man was standing, and smiling at me!
Joleen saw my stare and said, “Oh, that’s just Bryan! Yes! You HAVE to meet him!” I replied, “You know him?” She answered, “Of course, he and I are really good friends!” (Turns out we had the same circle of friends, but didn’t meet until it was meant to be, I guess!)
She said she was going to introduce us, and I was so scared! Finally I agreed, shaking, but I agreed! All I remember her saying was “Bryan! I want you to meet Lauren. Lauren, this is Bryan.” Oh My God.
All I did was stare into those gorgeous eyes. His brother, his brother’s girlfriend at the time, and good friend were also there. But, I really didn’t see anyone but him. It was surreal. We chatted for quite a while, but then I told him that I needed to get back to my friends who brought me there that night. Unfortunately, in the time I went back to my friends and went back to find him, he had already left. He told me later that he asked his party if he should have gotten my number and they all yelled at him, saying “Yes!”
Coincidental Meeting at Loma Theater
Sunday afternoon, following the amazing night at the Cap, my friend Christina and I decided to go to the little rinky-dink, one room Loma Theater in town to watch the matinee of LIAR LIAR. I think the movies were $3 then! We walked in, and immediately my eyes were drawn to my right. My handsome man was in the snack line next to us, getting his popcorn and large Dr. Pepper. His smile made my smile immediately! I said hello like a dork, and he said hello right back. We must have all looked like dorks!
He asked if I would like to watch the movie with him (and his party-brother and brother’s then girlfriend). I immediately accepted! We enjoyed our movie, and afterward, he asked me “Can I call you sometime?”
I rushed to my car, and scribbled down my name and number for him (he still has this paper) May 1st was our first “date”…although we agreed not to call it a date, since I was leaving soon. I went to his house, where he cooked me dinner…gorgeous flowers and dessert. Amazing. We spent so much time together in the last 2 weeks-he even went to my graduation! On the morning of my graduation, I found a book on my car. Bryan had been writing me letters since we met in this book. He decided he wanted to share these letters with me, and left them for me that morning. I had never read anything so wonderful – ever. To this day, the book is one of my favorite possessions.
Time to Go Separate Ways
Finally, it was time to go back to New York. My dad was driving me home, and we mailed most of my things back. Bryan agreed to mail the final boxes and to keep in touch. He was already such a good friend! Within a few days of arriving back to New York, the first 3 UPS boxes arrived. Within each box he sent, he enclosed a letter. They were amazing and romantic and thoughtful too! We kept in touch with letters and calls for about a month before Bryan asked if he could visit. I was ecstatic!
In June, he came to visit for a week. It was a blast to say the least. We bonded even more, and we did not want to leave each other. He and I decided that if it was meant to be then I would find us a place to live, a job for him, and he would then move to New York. So, for the rest of the month, I searched for an apartment and a job for my love.
Love and Marriage in New York
I was successful. Our first basement apartment was nothing to brag about! In July, Bryan packed his Chevy Blazer, wrote “Bound For New York” on the back window and drove to our new place. Our love grew quickly, and we were already talking about marriage. He had gotten me a promise ring and we planned to elope. Although my parents thought he was the best thing for me and a great guy, they really wanted us to wait to get married until I graduated. We tried to wait, but one night after going out, we were driving home, and he pulled over to propose-with a gorgeous ring! It was a definite!
On September 2, 1997, right after my first day of classes let out, we headed towards the Yorktown Court, and sealed the deal. We couldn’t have been happier! We went to the Yorktown Coach Diner to celebrate-he got a double bacon cheeseburger, and I, a shrimp cocktail! The waitress even commented on how happy we looked and to this day we still get those comments!
