Is Pregnancy Possible After Tubal Ligation?

Is pregnancy possible after tubal ligation?

Is pregnancy possible after tubal ligation? This question is often asked for one of two reasons: either a fear of pregnancy or a desire to become pregnant after a tubal ligation operation. Some women will have a missed period after having their tubes tied and they will be fearful of being pregnant. Others will want to have another baby and will inquire about the possibilities of becoming pregnant after a tubal reversal operation.

We have previously discussed the possibility of tubal ligation failure. We now share the story of one woman who had her tubes tied, suffered a tragic life event, and then overcame the permanence of her tubal ligation.

Tubal Ligation And Pregnancy

Tubal ligation and pregnancy are both possible. Tubal ligation and a successful pregnancy can happen after a patient undergoes a tubal ligation reversal operation.

Tubal reversal offers the possibility of pregnancyTonya was a patient of A Personal Choice in June of 2009. She traveled to us with her husband, Donald, from eastern North Carolina. We previously published their story about reasons for tubal reversal and experience of having a tubal reversal at our center: Tubal Ligation Reversal Angel Has Her Tubes Untied.

Tubes Tied: Not Always Permanent

Tonya had her tubes tied during what she thought was her last c-section. She had a ligation and resection tubal ligation procedure. After having her tubes tied, Tonya then went through a divorce. Several more years passed and she then suffered the unexpected death of her oldest child. The death of her daughter, Taylor,  was a tragedy Tonya was not ready to accept nor was she going to accept the permanence of her tubal ligation. Tonya then began to inquire about the possibility and the chances of becoming pregnant after her tubes untied.

Pregnancy After Tubal Ligation

Pregnancy after tubal ligation is possible. Tonya became pregnant within three months of her tubal ligation reversal surgery. Her pregnancy went well and was without complications. She eventually gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Tayton, approximately 11 months after her tubal ligation reversal. Tonya’s story demonstrates pregnancy is possible after a tubal ligation.

Is Pregnancy Possible After Tubes Tied?

Birth after having tubes tied is possible.Pregnancy is possible after tubes are tied. The reasons are because of tubal ligation failure, in-vitro fertilization, or because of tubal ligation reversal. The vast majority of women come to A Personal Choice in the hopes of becoming pregnant after their tubal ligation. Some of our patients don’t consider becoming pregnant the most important priority but want to be made whole again.

Tonya’s pregnancy testimonial and other patients’ testimonials can be viewed in the Patient Testimonial section of our website. These testimonials, as well as submitted Patient Satisfaction Messages, are testaments to the fulfillment of the hopes and dreams of the couples who come to Chapel Hill from all over the world for their tubal ligation reversals.

Our experience has demonstrated that permanent does not always have to be forever and pregnancy is possible after tubal ligation.
