At the age of 31 I had the Essure procedure in November 2006, not really thinking about what I was doing and knowing that I still wanted children. However, being a single mother of 2 boys I thought it was the best thing to do.
I met my fiance mid 2007. Shortly after meeting him I realized what a HUGE mistake I made. In 2008 I began surfing the internet looking for any information I could find on reversing Essure. I had already tried contacting doctors in my area, however, the answer always was the same – “You cannot reverse Essure”, or (my personal favorite), “The only way to remove the coils is with a hysterectomy”.
I contacted numerous doctors in the U.S. and when I talked to the staff at A Personal Choice, I knew this was the right place. Dr. Berger took the time to email me each and every time I had a question. I was very impressed with the friendliness of everyone on his staff. I remember the day I had all the money for the reversal. I called the office and they scheduled my appointment for 3 weeks from that day! Within five minutes of scheduling my appointment, I had some emails from the staff with instructions and paperwork. They had even already faxed the preop lab work to the lab and I was off to have my blood drawn.
I was very nervous about it and not quite sure what to expect. I became a member of the Tubal Reversal Message Board and realized that I was not alone. There were so many women who like me wanted that second chance to have a baby.
I arrived in Chapel Hill the evening of August 24th and had my pre-op appointment on August 25th. I was so impressed with the facility and was anxious to meet Dr. Berger. He was very friendly and took the time to explain to me and my fiancee exactly what he was going to do. He even drew a picture for us. I had my Essure Reversal on August 26, 2009. Contrary to what most people say, my tubes were not short; in fact there were 9 cm on both sides. We will be continuing this story as Part 2 ~ Essure and our Berger Baby.
