Full Time Nursing Jobs Raleigh NC: Positions Available With A Personal Choice!

A Personal Choice is offering full time nursing jobs in Raleigh, North Carolina. Part time and PRN nursing jobs are also available.

A Personal Choice is a boutique surgical practice exclusively specializing in office based fertility surgery.
full-time-nursing-jobs-are-available-Raleigh-NCThe surgical practice provides:

  1. Female sterilization reversal (tubal ligation reversal)
  2. Male sterilization reversal (vasectomy reversal)
  3. Minimally invasive vasectomy (No scalpel vasectomy)

A Personal Choice is located near North Hills Mall Midtown, Raleigh just inside the I-440 belt line.
We have been in this location since 2014.

A Personal Choice exclusively provides sterilization reversal surgery. Sterilization reversal is the main alternative treatment to in-vitro fertilization (IVF). Sterilization reversal can be more affordable and more successful than IVF.

Most states do not have doctors skilled enough to provide sterilization reversal. As a result, A Personal Choice is a very unique practice offering patients an affordable alternative to more expensive IVF infertility treatments. As a result, patients travel from across the United States to have sterilization reversal surgery at the center.

Reversal surgery is outpatient and performed in an accredited office operating room.

  • Fridays are dedicated to providing No scalpel, minimally invasive vasectomy. Vasectomy procedures are performed under local anesthesia.

A Personal Choice is open from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday. The office is never open on weekends or at nights.

The office is closed for the full week of the July 4th holiday and the full week of the Christmas holiday.

Nurses scheduling and answering phone inquires

Potential patient phone calls. Full time nurses help answer phone calls and emails from website visitors inquiring about surgery. These nurses instruct patients on how to send their sterilization operative notes for review.

Surgery scheduling. When patients are ready to schedule full time nurses schedule patients over the phone, email surgery scheduling documents, and coordinate patient payment with the front office business staff.

Patient education. Full time nurses provide preoperative and postoperative patient education during the surgery consultation appointments, day of surgery visits, and post-operative consultation visits. Full time nurses help with patient intake during vasectomy procedures and also provide patients with vasectomy after care instructions. Vasectomy procedures are offered on most Fridays and some Thursday afternoons.

Full time office nurses are also expected to cross train in surgical nursing. If staffing requires additional assistance, the full time nurses will assist the part-time and PRN surgical nurses with 1) preoperative surgery patient intake, 2) surgical circulating, 3) post-operative recovery, and 4) vasectomy patient education.

Full Time Nurse Position: Secondary job responsibilities

Preoperative patient intake. This involves getting patients ready for surgery and providing patient education about what to expect during and immediately after surgery. Nurses working in the preoperative area must be able to start an intravenous catheter (IV). If required, training in IV insertion can be provided. Nurses must be able to gain proficiency in starting IV catheters. Anesthesia staff can provide back up for difficult to insert IV catheters.

Preparing patient for surgery

Surgical circulating nurse. The surgical circulating nurse is part of a five (5) person operating room team composed of the surgeon, a CRNA, and two surgical technicians (an instrument technician and a first assistant).

The circulating nurse is responsible for nursing paper chart documentation during the surgery procedure, completing the operating procedure note (simple, Microsoft Word computer based template), and providing any additional items required during surgery (ie  instruments, medications, intravenous fluids, etc). The circulating nurse assists with patient transfer to the recovery room and assists with cleanup and operating room turnover for the next surgery patient.

Surgeries at our facility are much easier than hospital surgical procedures because patients are carefully selected and we perform a very narrow set of surgical procedures.

Post-operative recovery. This involves recovering the patient immediate after awakening from general anesthesia, providing post-operative pain medication, providing postoperative education to the patient and responsible adult.

On surgery days there are always a dedicated circulating nurse and a dedicated recovery room nurse.

Surgical experience not required for Full Time Nursing Jobs

Prior surgical experience is not required and on the job training can be provided.

Although surgical nursing may seem intimidating to many potential applicants, surgery at A Personal Choice is not as stressful as hospital provided surgery because 1) we perform a very narrow set of surgical procedures (very easy to learn), 2) patients are carefully screened during scheduling and are low risk surgical candidates (very rare to have complicated surgery or a surgical emergency), 3) there is low nursing staff turn over, nursing staff is very well trained and eager to provide assistance if required, and 4) competent and stable anesthesia staffing is always available for consultation and/or assistance.

In summary, the full time nursing position primarily involves scheduling and patient education but also requires cross training in surgery to be able to provide surgery assistance during low surgery census days and on days when surgical staffing requires additional assistance.

Full Time Nursing Jobs at A Personal Choice: Who should apply?

The following are qualities we have found to be prominent in successful staff members:

  • Team players
  • Those looking for stable, daytime hours during the week
  • Those who can appreciate predictable working hours and a less stressful environment and compared with a hospital setting

Who should not apply…

The following are attributes we have found to be ‘deal breakers’ in people who should not apply or who are likely not to last in our environment.

  • Those looking for excitement and drama. If you want to run codes, transfuse blood, and save lives on the brink of death, then we are not for you.
  • Those with a history of substance abuse or multiple disciplinary actions
  • Those with a history of felony or criminal convictions
  • Those who anticipate getting paid as much, if not more, than they are paid in a hospital setting
  • Those who anticipate multiple, unplanned absences

In general, the biggest employment issues have been with 1) those who have unrealistic pay expectations and 2) newly employed staff who have multiple absences.

Unrealistic pay expectations. Many potential employees expect the same level of hourly pay that a hospital provides. This is not realistic for a new hire. There is a reason hospital pay is higher and that is because they expect you to deal with more stress, longer shifts, night/weekend hours, holiday work, and being on call. Office based work is less stressful.

We realize the need to retain good staff. The nurses who have been with us the longest and who are team players have hourly reimbursement comparable to hospital nurses; however, it is not realistic to expect this level of treatment when you are a new hire and an unknown.

Multiple, unplanned absences. Many nurses will leave a hospital to work in an office setting because they have other ‘issues’ in life and they think an office environment will allow more flexibility to deal with these ‘issues’. Although we do offer staff more flexibility than the average hospital setting, flexibility must be earned over time by being a team player rather than automatically assumed because you are in a less stressful work setting.

Please keep in mind we are a smaller office practice. We have 8 to 10 full time staff. When 1 person out of 10 is absent multiple times this causes more of an immediate issue for patient care when compared to 10 people being absent in a hospital staffing pool of over 100 nurses.

Our office is like a small family and is an ideal setting for the appropriate person. We can provide a very comfortable environment to the person with a true team player attitude.
