Reversing Essure: Is it possible?
Reversing Essure and having a successful pregnancy are possible when you have surgery with Dr. Monteith.
From 2008 to 2015, Dr. Monteith has performed over 230 surgeries to reverse or remove Essure devices. Most tubal reversal doctors will not reverse Essure. Other reversal doctors offer Essure reversal in an effort to keep up with Dr. Monteith but these doctors rarely provide testimonials of Essure reversal success.
Risk of Essure reversal
Essure reversal with Dr. Monteith is a safe out-patient procedure. Dr. Monteith reverses Essure by removing the devices and performing a tubouterine implantation. The chance of pregnancy after Essure reversal is between 35% to 40%. The main risks of Essure reversal are the risk of ectopic (tubal) pregnancy and uterine rupture during labor.
Dr. Monteith recommends patients follow-up with their local doctor and have every early pregnancy monitored with serum HCG test (blood pregnancy test). This will allow early diagnosis and treatment of ectopic pregnancy.
Dr. Monteith also recommends a planned c-section before labor to minimize the risk of uterine rupture after Essure reversal.

During the first six years of performing Essure reversal, only one patient has reported ectopic pregnancy and one patient has reported rupture of the uterus.
Dr. Monteith provides all patients and their local doctor with a copy of the operative report and a letter of recommendation. Although Dr. Monteith recommends a planned c-section, the ultimate decision on how to deliver is best made between the patient and her local doctor.
